The North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU) is one of nine other ROCUs around the country and here in the North East we have an outstanding team of officers and staff providing specialist support and an increased response to tackling serious and organised crime that transcends Force borders in the region.
We work regionally on behalf of Northumbria Police, Durham Constabulary and Cleveland Police and alongside partners like the National Crime Agency (NCA) and National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) to carry out investigations into organised crime and those suspected of exploiting others for illicit gains.
Two of our specialist teams are our Regional Cyber Crime Unit and our Regional Economic Crime Team who deliver nationally approved products and services, reducing risk and increasing resilience within the region across the cyber and economic threat landscape.
More about our Regional Economic Crime Team
Our Regional Economic Crime Team tackle scams, fraud and economic crimes from all angles.
Whether that is providing advice and top tips to protect yourself and loved ones from the likes of romance and courier frauds, educating students around money muling and working with banks to spot signs of criminal activity.
They also work regularly with partners like Action Fraud to raise awareness around scams linked to things like holidays, pensions, insurance, banking and business.
More about our Regional Cyber Crime Unit
Our Regional Cyber Crime Unit work year round to provide specialist support to businesses, education centres and individuals on topics linked to cyber. That could involve protection advice online, cyber threat prevention guidance and providing the safety tools and resources needed to navigate the digital world.
They also have a dedicated team who work closely with the National Crime Agency (NCA) to deliver a national initiative called Cyber Choices which focuses on preventing young people from becoming involved in cyber crime.
The aim of Cyber Choices is to educate young people who have an interest in technology to use their skills safely and legally while also raising awareness of the consequences of becoming involved in cyber crime.
